These are damaging insects that invade and damage structures and furniture depending on factors such as moisture and wood type. There are a lot of types of wood borers and their adult size ranges from 1 mm to around 25 mm, with each female laying up to 50 eggs inside cracks and crevices present on wood. Wood borers have the potential to be harmful especially when an infestation is present, as damaged furniture, floor boards and weak structures can lead to structural failure. In order to prevent an infestation, homeowners and managers must constantly check structure, reduce presence of moisture, and to avoid further damage, seek professional help from a reliable pest control company.

Roaches are one of the most common pests present in households, buildings and even commercial establishments. The size of a cockroach can typically range from ½ an inch to about 2 inches, which allows them to fit through cracks and crevices in the area. Aside from having a lifespan of 160-180 days, these resilient insects are also a mighty challenge to get rid of due to their ability to survive without food for a long time. Homeowners and managers should maintain cleanliness and prevent infestation of roaches so as to not risk the spread of germs and diseases as well as the possible triggering of allergies and asthma. Diseases like Dysentery, Cholera, Leprosy and Typhoid fever are but only a fraction of sickness and health risks that a cockroach infestation can carry and spread through contamination.

Rodents are agile creatures that infest places where food is mostly present. These creatures take advantage of holes similar to the size of a dime to invade homes and establishments. Each rat differs in size, ranging from a few inches to as big as 10 inches. They are known to chew through wood, cinderblocks, glass and wires using their strong teeth to create entry points when there are none. Aside from spreading diseases through contamination, they could also pose as a threat through fire hazards by chewing through electric wiring. Homeowners and managers should block holes and possible entry points. Avoiding clutter within the area also reduces the amount of possible hiding spots. Hantavirus, Leptospirosis, Tularemia and Salmonella are some examples of the diseases carried by rodents.

Flies are small insects that are highly attracted to any types of food they can get their hands on. Flies differ from size starting from 4mm to about 7.5mm, because of their small stature and great reaction time they can be quite challenging to get rid of. A single house fly can reproduce at the rate of 2,000 eggs in a single month, with only 10 days to reach maturity and only have a lifespan of about 30 days. This makes it easy for a just small fly problem to suddenly turn into an infestation, and because flies often defecate, the chances of contamination are high. In order to prevent fly infestations, homeowners and managers should identify places where food might be present or left out, and put them inside containers with tight-fitted lids. Garbage bags with food wastes must also be disposed of properly. Flies can carry diseases like Anthrax, Cholera, Salmonella, Tuberculosis and many more.

Female mosquitoes in specific, are also attracted to shallow and stagnant water as that is where they mostly lay their eggs. Although they are small in nature, they can come in numbers and would definitely be a challenge to control. While humans are the common victims of mosquito bites, it is no different for cats and dogs as well, with the same possibility of also infecting pets with dangerous diseases. Mosquitoes can lay between 50 to 500 eggs, and if left untreated, could easily progress into an infestation. A good way to prevent mosquitoes from multiplying, homeowners and managers should ensure that there is no trace of stagnant water within the area especially after heavy rains and flooding. Some famous examples of diseases caused by mosquitoes include Zika virus, West Nile virus, Dengue and also Malaria.

Fleas are tiny bloodsucking insects that rely on their hosts by biting them to survive. They are 2.5mm in size and have strong legs that allow them to jump long distances, making it harder to catch them. Flea infestations usually arise from attaching to pests outside and infest the homes and the places they sleep on. Fleas can produce 40-50 eggs per day and a single female flea can produce up to 2,000 eggs in her lifetime. In order to prevent flea infestations, homeowners and managers must constantly wash their pets and check for fleas. For infested yards and grass, the lawn must be treated to get rid of fleas. Some diseases carried by fleas include Typhus, Tungiansis, and Tularemia. Flea bites could also be harmful to people with sensitive skin, and some bites may also become infected.

Ticks are external parasites that feed on mammals, birds, and other animals but mostly prefer dogs. The size of adult ticks could range from around 3 to 5mm and they feed on their host’s blood for a long time. Adult female ticks could only lay eggs after feeding, and they could produce as many as 1,500 to 5,000 eggs. In order to prevent tick infestation, homeowners and managers should carefully check themselves and their pets for ticks after spending time outside.
Termites are insects that munch mainly on wood and other substances like paper, plastic and fiber to build their colonies, with each colony consisting of a queen, king, soldiers and workers. They thrive in places with food and moisture, and unbeknownst to the regular person, they silently move around using the tunnels they’ve built in homes and buildings. The average queen termite could lay an egg every 15 seconds up to 40,000 eggs per day. Aside from letting professionals deal with it, simple solutions could involve reducing moisture in the area as well as keeping stored wood away from your home. Unfortunately, aside from skin allergies, infections and skin diseases, termites can cause illness by spreading mold that can easily be inhaled by people. Leaving termites be could also compromise structural integrity in buildings as well as electrical structures, which is a cause of concern for any homeowner and manager.

Ants are social insects that gather in large colonies that consists of queens and many workers. They are attracted to any food and water that they can find to bring back to their nests, specifically sweets. Queen ants can produce at a rate of 800 eggs per day, and each egg would hatch in 8-10 days. While some species of ants may pose certain health risks to people sensitive of their bites, they are mostly harmless and are only a nuisance to homes and establishments due to their constant construction of nests and their nomadic lifestyle. In order to prevent the presence of ants, homeowners and managers must ensure that food is stored in sealed containers, cracks and crevices are sealed off, and cleanliness within the area is always observed.
