The Global Pest Awareness Day is a multinational campaign event that occurs on the 6th of June to raise awareness on the valuable yet underacknowledged role of pest management to the quality of life of not only people, business operations, and animals but also the environment. Often the importance of pest management is unbeknownst to most people until pests are finally a nuisance to their way of life. Pest management offers long term benefits to society, it is the responsibility of pest management organizations to keep people safe by getting rid of disease carrying pests and insects. Not only that, but as a business owner, it will protect your employees and potential clients and consumers thus preventing commercial loss. Truly, the pest management industry is one that deserves a lot more recognition that it receives.

Considering this upcoming event, the Pest Exterminators Association of the Philippines will be holding a webinar entitled Pest Awareness Amidst the Global Pandemic which focuses on spreading information and raising awareness. That being said, a coronavirus-induced global pandemic where business operations have declined and most people are unfortunately stuck in a home environment, there has been little to no information to be heard regarding pests and pest management. This information campaign was established to do just that through back-to-back presentations focusing on both the importance of pest management and other pest-induced diseases.

In the past, the Pest Exterminators Association of the Philippines has spearheaded multiple programs. On June 6, 2017, when the Global Pest Awareness Day was launched, the association along with other PEAP members including Mc Ace Service Provider Inc., held a motorcade as well as several misting activities along the communities. In 2019, the association then once again established a clean-up drive at the Estero de Magdalena in hopes to decrease the alarming breeding rate of mosquitoes within the area that could harm people. Several PEAP members partnered with police community precinct operatives as well as concerned barangays participated in the Linis Estero and joined collectively in this effort.

The Pest Exterminators Association of the Philippines along with Mc Ace Service Provider Inc., hope that the upcoming event will lead to an increased awareness of the role of pest management in society that empowers pest management organizations to be a lighthouse in their respective communities.

While certain areas contain more than others, the Philippines is home to many different mosquitoes all year round, including varieties that are considered to be transmitters of viral and parasitic infections. In the midst of an ongoing virus, the increasing number of people conscious about health, cleanliness and safety have never been greater. The news of an impending epidemic caused a lot of panic towards the people, spreading fear and paranoia from person to person as well as misinformation that might do more harm than good. The risks of infection have shown to be increasing as well, leaving homeowners, parents, managers, and the likes to look into professional disinfection services in order to protect their homes and maintain a safe environment for its inhabitants for the right reasons. Recent reviews on Coronaviruses show that the virus can survive on certain surfaces from 2 hours to 9 days depending on temperature, humidity, and strain. Specifically, common surfaces found in households and buildings like plastic and stainless steel allows the virus to survive for 2 to 3 days.

A year in with COVID-19, the importance of proper sanitation and disinfection has long been emphasized. Disinfection can be as simple as practicing good hand hygiene through constant washing. Businesses and other companies have now adapted towards contactless payments and certain health policies that limit the amount of interaction between people as pathogens can be transferred from physical contact. However, this still does not take into consideration possible airborne transmission through aerosol droplets which has the highest risk in crowded indoor spaces with poor ventilation. When left unchecked, people are prone to be infected with the virus if they continue to gather within these areas. For no complications, it is best to have professional disinfection service providers protect homes and crowded areas from germs and bacteria with efficient sterilization procedures.

Along with this, face masks and gloves have also been used to prevent the spread and the infection of the virus. In order to avoid contamination, one must identify and prioritize high contact surfaces like tables, doorknobs, keyboards, toilets and handles within the area then ensure that it is routinely cleaned. Continue to maintain a regularly cleaned environment within non-healthcare settings to reduce the potential for COVID-19 contamination and keep your people safe.
